Plot

In the modest farming town of Rickerby, twenty-four-year-old Kimberly Jantzen endeavors to build a brighter future for herself and her daughter, Lizi. Juggling her role as a single mother, a gas station attendant, and a nursing student, she's often dismissed as "white trash" by the town's judgmental populace. One fateful night, after a heated scuffle with Billy, her unfaithful ex-boyfriend, Kimberly suffers a severe hand injury. Dr. Richard Darian, the town's esteemed family physician and one of Rickerby's most affluent figures, attends to her wound. Amid the haze of heavy sedation, Kimberly experiences a horrifying violation - she is certain that Dr. Darian has taken advantage of her helpless state. Convinced that the local law enforcement will turn a blind eye, Kimberly courageously files charges against Dr. Darian with the metro police. A subsequent medical examination corroborates her assault, revealing recent intercourse and DNA evidence. However, the well-respected doctor seemingly controls every aspect of the ensuing investigation, turning the town against Kimberly while they rally around him, defending his honor and reputation. The narrative then spirals into a compelling tale of Kimberly's unwavering pursuit of justice. She is determined to reclaim her dignity and truth, no matter the cost, even if it means challenging the deeply rooted biases of her community. The core question that drives this gripping story is how far Kimberly is willing to go to regain her soul, and whether her actions will eventually lead to the justice she so desperately seeks.
