How to Steal a Million (1966)

In the heart of Paris, Charles Bonnet stands as a formidable figure in the art world, known for his vast collection of rare masterpieces, particularly from the Impressionist era. Yet, beneath the veneer of legitimacy, Charles is an art forger of exceptional skill, recreating lost pieces with uncanny precision. His daughter, Nicole, is entangled in this web of deception, dreading the day her father's secret might be exposed. The stakes escalate when Charles loans his prized Cellini Venus statue to the distinguished Kléber-Lafayette Museum. Unbeknownst to them, this Venus wasn't crafted by the legendary Cellini, but by Nicole's equally talented grandfather. As advances in technology enable tests determining the age of the materials, Nicole fears that the façade of authenticity won't hold, thereby incriminating her father. In a desperate attempt to protect Charles, Nicole forms a daring plan to steal the Venus from the museum, a task made even more precarious by the newly installed state-of-the-art security system. To achieve this audacious heist, she enlists the help of Simon Dermott, a burglar of high society with a reputation as solid as the Bonnets'. Yet, their mission is further complicated by the charming American art collector, Davis Leland. He is not only courting Nicole but is also determined to acquire the Venus for his own collection. In the swirling world of art forgery and theft, nothing is as it seems, and Nicole and Simon must navigate a labyrinth of deception, passion, and danger to save Charles from the brink of disaster.
