Hotel Reserve (1944)

In the turbulent year of 1938, amidst the looming shadow of Nazi invasion, Austrian medical student Peter Vadassy seeks solace on the sun-drenched shores of the French Riviera, at the Hotel Reserve. Having escaped the clutches of his homeland’s oppressors, Vadassy, half French and living in France for the past five years, stands on the precipice of becoming a naturalized French citizen. His hopes are abruptly shattered when he is ensnared in a web of suspicion spun from seemingly innocuous photographs found in his camera. French authorities question Vadassy, their accusations heavy with the sinister insinuations of Nazi espionage. Unbeknownst to Vadassy, he is an innocent pawn in a dangerous game; the police are aware of his innocence and the true culprit, a shadowy figure who switched cameras with Vadassy, lurks within the confines of the Hotel Reserve. The authorities, however, are content to use Vadassy as a scapegoat, threatened with deportation back to a Nazi-occupied Austria and impending imprisonment. Caught in a deadly maelstrom of intrigue and deception, Vadassy is left with a daunting task - unmask the Nazi spy hidden amongst the guests and staff of the hotel. His freedom, and his dreams of French citizenship, hang in the balance. Now, in the labyrinthine corridors of the Hotel Reserve, every whisper echoes with danger, every face holds a potential enemy, and every moment brings Vadassy closer to the truth that could either save or destroy him.
