In the bustling corridors of Montclair High School, three distinct lives converge amidst a whirlwind of comic mishaps, poignant moments, and episodic exploits. Sean, the star football player, grapples with the balancing act between his athletic prowess and his slipping grades, a struggle that threatens his position on the team. His girlfriend, Jenny, dances on the edge of the wild and reckless world of rock bands, drugs, and wantonness, thanks to her audacious friend Susan's enticing lure. In stark contrast, Ziggy, the quintessential geek, navigates the stormy seas of social awkwardness, embarked on a relentless quest for the right woman. Then there's Jason, the school's notorious bad boy, a punk with a hardened exterior, who battles his oppressive home life, channeling his pent-up fury onto others as his only escape. These seemingly disparate lives intersect unexpectedly during a spell in detention, setting off a chain of events that help them realize that they share more common ground than they ever imagined.
