Plot

Once a shining star in the cinematic firmament, two-time Oscar-winning director Val Waxman has seen his light dimmed by a decade of inactivity, marred by a reputation for being unreasonably difficult. Now, the New York-based auteur is offered a lifeline to salvage his dwindling career—a prestigious $60 million project titled "The City that Never Sleeps", produced by the Los Angeles-based Galaxie Pictures. However, the lifeline comes with a twist—a personal and professional paradox that tests his grit. The producer of the film is Ellie, his ex-wife, who decamped to the arms of Hal Yaeger, the head of Galaxie, a man Val sees as beneath him. Despite their complex history, Ellie vouches for Val, confident in her ability to handle him and his artistic prowess, much to Val's secret reservations and simmering hostility towards Hal. In this high-stakes game of dreams and egos, Ellie promises Val artistic freedom, assuring him that Hal will not interfere. However, as the project takes off, things threaten to spiral out of control with creative clashes, budgetary constraints, and Val's current girlfriend Lori, a lackluster actress who insists on a role in the film. But the greatest challenge comes in an unexpected form. Just three days before shooting begins, Val is struck by a sudden, psychologically induced blindness. Terrified that this revelation could end his career, Val seeks advice from his loyal agent, Al Hack. Together, they hatch a daring plan to keep his disability a secret from the studio and the rest of the crew. With the pressure mounting, Val must navigate the treacherous waters of Hollywood while grappling with his sudden loss of vision. Will he be able to keep his secret whilst directing a multimillion-dollar film? Furthermore, can he uncover and confront the root cause of his blindness, knowing his sight may never return unless he does so? The plot thickens as an inquisitive reporter, Andrea Ford, is allowed access on set, always on the hunt for the next big scoop, oblivious to the monumental secret lurking right under her nose. Can Val pull off the Hollywood Ending he so desperately needs, or will he become another casualty of Tinseltown's unforgiving spotlight?
