Highway to Hellas (2015)

A specter of suspicion descends upon the idyllic Greek island of Paladiki as the Germans approach, their gaze keen and critical. Fueled by the belief that the Greeks are inclined towards deception and fraud, Jörg Geissner, a diligent employee from Munich's AVO-Bank, lands on the island. His mission: to ascertain the existence of the securities backing a loan granted years ago by his bank - a hospital and a power generating plant. His gut tells him they're nothing more than mythical constructions. However, the Greek islanders are no pushovers. They challenge Geissner to prove his suspicions, embroiling him in a chaotic odyssey that pits him against the entire island. At his side is the cunning German-Greek wheeler-dealer, Panos, who ensures Geissner's quest is more quagmire than quest. While Geissner and Panos navigate the island's intrigues, Paladiki's Mayor Spyros is in a mad scramble. He must construct something that, under the cloak of night and through a haze of potent libations, could pass as a power plant. Losing the loan would spell financial doom for the already economically strained island. As the island of Paladiki becomes a frenzy of frantic deceptions, a ramshackle sheepfold is hastily transformed into a questionable facsimile of a power plant. Amidst this chaos, Geissner, the meticulous auditor, and Panos, the island's free-spirited charmer, find themselves engaging in an unexpected camaraderie. Their unlikely friendship blooms amidst the backdrop of a desperate race against time and suspicion in the sun-drenched, intrigue-laden island of Paladiki.
