Highway 301 (1950)

In the late 1940s, a wave of terror sweeps across the states of North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. The source of this terror is The Tri-State Gang, a ruthless group of armed robbers known for their relentless attacks on banks and payroll vans. The notorious gang comprises five hardened criminals: George Legenza, William B. Phillips, Robert Mais, Herbie Brooks, and Noyes Hinton. Among them, George Legenza, the gang's leader, stands out for his sheer brutality, taking a sadistic pleasure in murdering bank guards and any unfortunate witnesses to their heinous crimes. During one daring heist, a witness manages to catch a glimpse of the gang's getaway car's license plate. Although the information is partial, it provides a lead for the police. They respond swiftly, setting up roadblocks and conducting meticulous investigations, verifying identities and matching descriptions of the criminals and their vehicle. A dedicated police unit led by the tenacious Detective Sgt. Truscott is assigned the formidable task of capturing the gang. Unbeknownst to the world, the gang members lead seemingly ordinary lives with their unsuspecting girlfriends in their downtime. However, when one of the girlfriends, a Canadian, stumbles upon the truth about their nefarious activities, she attempts to sever ties with her criminal lover. Legenza, fearing betrayal, shoots her. Miraculously, she survives and becomes a guarded asset in the hospital, awaiting police interrogation. Legenza, upon learning she's still alive, grows desperate. He risks everything to infiltrate the heavily guarded hospital in an attempt to silence her. But Sgt. Truscott's men are prepared, leading to a tense standoff. The confrontation quickly escalates to a high-speed car chase, tearing through the city's streets, and culminating in a dramatic finale at the rail yard. The tale of Highway 301 is a thrilling journey through a time of lawlessness, shedding light on the dark side of the American dream.
