High Season (1987)

As the radiant Greek sun graces the captivating island of Rhodes, Katherine, an English expatriate and skilled photographer, finds her tranquil residence invaded by the annual influx of summer tourists. Her usual disdain for this seasonal disruption is overshadowed by a whirlwind of personal turmoil that this particular summer brings. Financial woes are merely the start of her mounting troubles. An ambitious local, eager to boost the island's tourism, introduces a new twist into Katherine's life. He commissions a sculpture for the town square, ironically titled the Unknown Tourist, and the creator enlisted for this task is none other than Katherine's charismatic ex-husband, a magnet for both trouble and temptation. Adding to the drama, Katherine's dear friend and seasoned antiquarian, Sharp, arrives with a secret burning a hole in his pocket. His confessions may very well unravel their long-standing bond, especially when suspicions arise that he might be a covert Russian spy. Meanwhile, an unsuspecting English tourist named Branagh blunders about. Ostensibly on a second honeymoon, he finds himself inexplicably drawn to the enigmatic Katherine, while his wife embarks on a romantic adventure of her own. As this tangled tapestry of relations unfolds, an invaluable vase, undisclosed spy activities, and the unveiling of the town's new statue all coalesce into a climactic resolution. In the midst of all the chaos, the characters must navigate through a labyrinth of past connections, secret loves, and misdirected affections. "High Season" merges the serenity of Greek summers with the turbulence of human relationships, creating a vibrant mosaic of life in a tourist town.
