Hell's Kitchen (1939)

In the gritty underbelly of the urban jungle, a hardened group of city kids, fresh from the crucible of reform school, find themselves reassigned to a "Boy's Town" style shelter. This city within a city, designed to be a haven of inmate self-governance, is plagued by the shadowy dealings of its superintendent, Hiram Krispan, and his cunning accomplice, Buck Caesar, an ex-racketeer walking the tightrope of probation. Buck Caesar, despite his murky past, discovers an unexpected kinship with these resilient youths. As he revels in the challenge of guiding them towards the straight and narrow, he forges an alliance with the dedicated social workers, Beth Avery and Jim Donahue, in a bold bid to oust the corrupt Krispan. As part of his diabolical scheme, Krispan tightens the screws on the reform school's inmates, stoking the fires of unrest.
