Held Up (1999)

In the sun-drenched backdrop of the Southwest, lovebirds Rae and Michael find their vacation spiraling into chaos when Rae discovers Michael has squandered their house fund on a vintage motor. Feeling betrayed, Rae abandons him, hitching a ride to the city of sin, Las Vegas, for a one-way flight home. Meanwhile, a mischievous youngster leaves Michael high and dry by stealing his newly bought classic car, stranding him at the Zip & Sip, a local convenience store. Just when he thinks things cannot get any worse, three clumsy crooks decide to rob the store. Two escape with the spoils, leaving their accomplice behind with a curious crate, just as the law enforcement descends on the scene. Trapped, the remaining robber takes everyone in the store hostage. As the bumbling police scramble to assemble a SWAT team and strategize a rescue, Michael finds himself in the unlikely position of peacemaker. He must keep the nervous robber at bay, unearth the contents of the mysterious crate, aid in the negotiations, all while figuring out a way back to Rae. In the ensuing tension, the strange allure of the Stockholm Syndrome begins to take hold. The plot weaves an intricate tapestry of humor, suspense, and human connections, making "Held Up" an unforgettable cinematic journey.
