Head On (1998)

In the pulsating heart of his turbulent adolescence, Ari, a 19-year-old Greek Australian, is caught in a tempest of self-discovery and familial expectation. Striving to reconcile his budding sexuality with the heavy weight of his traditional Greek heritage, Ari finds himself embroiled in a whirlwind of emotions, desires, and bitter resentment towards his parents. Formerly radical activists, his parents have now retreated into a shell of insular tradition, leaving Ari feeling both betrayed and suffocated. Fuelled by youthful defiance and an insatiable thirst for freedom, Ari relentlessly plunges head on into an exhilarating, high-octane night of wild dancing, illicit drugs, and unapologetic exploration of his sexual desires. While his parents remain blissfully ignorant of his nocturnal escapades, Ari finds himself in a half-hearted attempt to appease societal norms by courting the sister of a close friend. But his heart truly belongs to the chaotic world of the night, where he can unabashedly be himself. "Head On" is a raw, fervent journey into the eye of a storm called youth, where traditional values clash with the relentless tide of self-expression.
