In the throbbing heart of Washington D.C, the charismatic Mays Gilliam is on the verge of losing his position as a neighborhood alderman. His life takes an unexpected turn when a front-running presidential candidate dies tragically just a few weeks before the election. After a heroic act of saving a woman and her cat from a soon-to-explode house, Gilliam finds himself the unlikely hero of the hour. However, this moment of triumph is marred by heartbreak when his fiancee Kim leaves him, claiming all his worldly possessions, including his coveted fancy car. It is at this juncture that the cunning Senator Bill Arnot, along with shrewd party advisors Martin Geller and Debra Lassiter, concocts a plan. Mitch's candid advice to be true to himself gives Gilliam a new perspective on the campaign. Gilliam also finds support in Lisa Clark, a firm believer in his potential, and Debra Lassiter, who, despite her initial reluctance, becomes an essential advisor on his campaign.
