Plot

David Gold, a once-famed child star, now finds himself as a thirty-something man on the verge of ruin. His life, a blend of overgrown adolescence and distorted reality, hangs by a thread, fraught with excessive drinking, severed family ties, impending homelessness, and a worrying medical diagnosis that he is in stark denial of. As he struggles to keep his head above water, he stumbles upon a way to keep his life from imploding—assuming the identity of Roland Brown, a real-life counselor he finds online. Armed with borrowed credentials and Brown's memorized mantras, David assumes the role of a high school counselor. His eccentric mantra-spouting and oddball personality initially strike the faculty and students as peculiar. However, he soon reverts to his old habits, becoming a booze-guzzling guide who connects with students by dishing out unconventional advice. In this strange new world of teenage angst and school politics, David finds unexpected human connections and might even stumble upon profound realizations about his own life. Yet, his fabricated existence takes a sinister turn when he uncovers distressing truths about one of his students, Jabrielle Crain, whose problems run deeper than a shot of vodka can soothe. Guidance is a riveting journey through the ups and downs of a former child star turned high school counselor, who becomes an unlikely hero for his students while grappling with his own perilous reality. The film explores the darker corners of deceit, vulnerability, and the desperate desire for redemption. Will David find the guidance he needs, or will his life continue to spiral out of control?
