Plot

In the frostbitten heart of Montreal, the year is 1995, a time rife with political tension due to the impending second referendum on the separation of Quebec. The quiet residential neighborhood of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, affectionately known as NDG, hides a chilling secret beneath its placid surface. A relentless serial killer, notorious for his gruesome exploits, stalks the shadowed streets, his reign of terror leaving three victims in its wake. Amidst this fearful climate, an old apartment building becomes a microcosm of suspicion and dread. The newest tenant, Victor, an earnest elementary school teacher, arrives from China with his feline companion, Balthazar, to occupy the fourth floor. He forms an unlikely friendship with Louise, a waitress from a local Chinese restaurant and a fervent cat lover who resides on the second floor with her cherished pets, Mozart and Tia Maria. Living on the first floor is Spencer, a handicapped individual bound to a wheelchair, their lives converging in an intricate web of camaraderie and mistrust. The constant news of the murders keeps Louise on edge, and Victor, smitten by her, finds himself escorting her home every day after work. However, the unity of this unexpected trio is threatened when their inebriated neighbor, Valérie Langlois, embarks on a malevolent act on Christmas night, poisoning Louise's beloved cats out of sheer hatred. Pushed to her limit, Louise concocts a plan for revenge against Valerie, simulating an attack by the elusive serial killer. However, the tables turn dramatically when she encounters the genuine murderer, an encounter witnessed by Victor. The arrival of a determined police detective and a shrewd Behavioral Psychologist, Roland Brandt, to investigate the crime throws the old apartment building into further chaos. As the frozen winter deepens, so does the mystery, with each tenant becoming a potential suspect in this thrilling game of deception and survival.
