Plot

Two decades have passed since Ben Cutler (Fred MacMurray) last donned a badge, but when his tranquil town becomes the victim of a bank heist, he feels compelled to join the posse. During the ensuing pursuit, he witnesses the murder of Marshal Cain (Emile Meyer) and, unable to refuse the town's plea, takes up the mantle of law enforcement. However, the once beloved Cutler soon finds himself the object of the town's ire as he takes his new role to heart, arresting and bearing witness against the murderer - Eddie 'The Kid' Campbell (Robert Vaughn). Eddie, a boy from a fractured home who once roamed the town's dusty streets, has become the object of the town's misplaced sympathies. The townsfolk prefer to pin the sheriff's murder on one of the other fugitive bank robbers, unable to reconcile their image of Eddie as the mischievous, good-hearted boy with that of a cold-blooded killer. This tension is further fanned by Cutler's own daughter who, despite Eddie's abrupt departure two years prior following his mother's death, continues to harbor feelings for him. She too clings to the memory of Eddie as the innocent boy he once was, staunchly refusing to believe he's been hardened by a life on the run with outlaws. This gripping tale of loyalty, justice, and the power of perception will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
