Plot

Erin, a 31-year-old journalism graduate student at Stanford, finds herself in the whirlwind of a New York summer as an intern at the city's daily newspaper. In the heart of this vibrant metropolis, she crosses paths with Garrett, a charming record company employee fresh out of a relationship. Their connection is instantaneous, and the two become inseparable, weaving a passionate romance under the city's bright lights. Yet, as their summer love story unfolds, they must confront the looming reality of their diverging paths. As the countdown to Erin's departure begins, the six-week deadline casts a shadow over their blossoming relationship. The prospect of a long-distance relationship becomes an unavoidable truth they must face. Both Erin and Garrett, who are standing on opposite coasts, bravely admit their desire to evolve beyond a summer fling. However, the strain of the distance, coupled with the cynical advice from Erin's married sister Corinne, Garrett's clueless buddies Box and Dan, and their own insecurities, begins to test their bond. As the strains of their long-distance love grow, Erin and Garrett find themselves grappling with their careers and aspirations, struggling to find a way to bridge the gap between them. Their relationship becomes a balancing act between personal ambitions and the longing for each other. Erin, who once put her career on hold for love, is now striving to secure a reporting job in New York, while Garrett, disenchanted by his job, searches for opportunities in the Bay Area. As their efforts seem to lead nowhere, they are left questioning: Is there a future for them as a couple, or are they destined to become another casualty of distance? "Going the Distance" is a candid exploration of love, ambition, and the lengths one is willing to go for both.
