Plot

As the 90s dawn, the once united Yugoslavia crumbles into a brutal mosaic of warring factions. Amidst this chaos, we find Milan, a perpetual student steeped in Serb traditions, and Kenan, a Muslim cellist. United in love yet divided by their cultural heritage, they are a gay couple living an increasingly precarious life in Sarajevo. The escalating conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a tumultuous symphony of interethnic hostility, rattles the foundations of their world, both intimate and public. When the suffocating siege of Sarajevo by Serb forces ensnares the city, the lovers seize an opportunity to escape, seeking refuge in Milan's ancestral village. While they await the arrival of Milan's father, Ljubo, who is orchestrating their escape to the Netherlands, they find themselves witnessing firsthand the horrifying ferocity of Serb hatred towards Muslims. In a desperate bid to protect Kenan, Milan concocts an audacious disguise, presenting Kenan as his wife, Milena. This ruse is discovered by Milan's closest confidant, Lunja, adding another layer of tension to their already fraught existence. As Milan is conscripted into the army, Kenan is left to navigate this hostile landscape alone, save for the enigmatic waitress, Ranka. Her own shadowy past casts a chilling pall over the village, making her a pariah among the locals. In a world torn apart by war, prejudice, and fear, "Go West" weaves a moving tale of survival, identity, and the enduring power of love.
