Gharana (1988)

Steeped in opulence, Prem Mehra, a benevolent and magnanimous figure, shares his grandiose abode with his wife, Laxmi, their daughter, and their two sons, Vijay and Ravi. His life takes a drastic turn when his adversary Dharamdas conspires with a criminal and Prem's employee, Munshi, to filch valuable diamonds from his safe, thereby framing Prem for the theft and stripping him of his wealth and property. Facing penury, the family finds solace in the shelter of their steadfast and loyal employee, Rahim. Vijay steps into the world of journalism, while Ravi persists with his education. Amidst these trials, the family is further strained when their daughter's wedding hangs in the balance due to their inability to meet the dowry demand. The stress culminates in a stroke that paralyzes Prem. Vijay's life takes a romantic twist when he falls for Radha, his coworker, and they begin seeking their families' blessing for marriage. However, in an unexpected turn of events, Vijay forsakes Radha and marries Naina, the affluent daughter of his boss, Shraddha. This move reveals a hitherto unseen side of Vijay's character, exposing him as a man driven by greed. But the question remains- will Naina and Shraddha accept this side of Vijay? To complicate matters further, Ravi's heart is captivated by Lalita, who, unbeknownst to him, is the daughter of their nemesis, Dharamdas. This intricate web of relationships, deceit, and love forms the crux of the story, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats, eagerly waiting to see how the Mehra family navigates these tumultuous times.
