Plot

In the aftermath of the First Crusade, George (James Purefoy), a gallant English knight, returns home; his heart heavy with the scars of war and a yearning for a peaceful life. Accompanied by his Moorish comrade, Tarik (Michael Clarke Duncan), and the worldly Father Bernard (Jean-Pierre Castaldi), they navigate through a Europe transformed by the echoes of battle. As they arrive on English soil, a prophecy whispered by George's father, Sir Robert (Paul Freeman), haunts his mind - a prediction foretelling his destined confrontation with dragons. Venturing to the northern reaches of the land, George arrives in the quaint kingdom of Crail, under the reign of the benevolent King Edgar (Simon Callow). However, a shroud of despair hangs over the kingdom due to the mysterious disappearance of the King's beloved daughter, Princess Lunna (Piper Perabo). In exchange for a humble plot of land to call his own, George pledges to embark on a perilous quest to find the lost Princess, joined by the steadfast royal servant Elmendorf (Bill Treacher) and the Princess's ambitious fiancé, Garth (Patrick Swayze), whose eyes are set on the throne. Their journey ventures into the unknown, where they encounter Bulchar's (Stefan Jürgens') band of ruthless robbers seeking a hefty ransom. Yet, they discover that the Princess was not kidnapped as they had presumed. Instead, she has taken it upon herself to safeguard the last dragon egg, named "Smythe" after its mother, Adelaide, in a courageous attempt to protect the species from oblivion. As the group traverses this winding path, they learn that allies can become enemies and enemies can become friends. Divided opinions on the dragon's fate threaten to tear apart their fellowship. Their quest evolves into a tale of love, deception, and legend, weaving a narrative that will echo through the ages. This is a story that tests not only their bravery but also their understanding of loyalty, honor, and friendship, forever changing the course of their lives and the future of the kingdom.
