Plot

In the heart of the Second World War, a Gypsy clan finds itself on a ceaseless journey across France's picturesque yet scarred landscapes, accompanied by young Claude, an orphaned boy in pursuit of a fresh start. When their wanderings lead them to a small town where they traditionally earn their living from the fertile vineyards, they are confronted with a new law that shackles their nomadic existence. The town's compassionate mayor, Theodore, and the devoted schoolteacher, Miss Lundi, become their unlikely guardians, sheltering them from the harsh realities of the war-torn world. However, even their efforts cannot prevent the Gypsies from being swept into the maw of an internment camp. Theodore's audacious rescue plan offers them a glimmer of hope, presenting them with a piece of land to call their own. Yet, the Gypsies find themselves wrestling with the chains of a sedentary life, their souls yearning for the freedom of their ancestral ways. When Theodore and Miss Lundi are seized for their defiant resistance, the Gypsies recognize the grim truth - their only chance at freedom lies in reclaiming their transient roots. A testament to the indomitable spirit of freedom, this movie encapsulates the trials and tribulations of a culture, forever on the move.
