In the wake of a miraculous survival from a commercial plane crash, a young Austrian woman finds joy in the simplicity of life. As the year unfolds, we delve into the lives of those left behind in her wake. Her daughter, subjected to a myriad of medical tests; her husband, entangled in an illicit affair with her best friend; her sister, trading intimacy for shelter; her brother, forming a tentative bond with a reserved pharmacy clerk. We also explore the life of the clerk's isolated mother, an ostracised high-school student battling skin issues, and the boy she could potentially form a bond with - the very one behind the wheel during the fatal crash.
The narrative intertwines these lives, prompting us to question whether there's a design behind such random occurrences. Is life fraught with meaning, or is it simply a series of disjointed happenstances?
