Plot

In a home resonating with the sweet harmony of music, dwells Adam Lemp, the esteemed Dean of the Briarwood Music Foundation. His passion for music has been inherited by his four daughters - Thea, Emma, Kay, and Ann, who share the abode with him and their Aunt Etta. Among the quartet, Kay exhibits the brightest potential as a singer, despite their shared love for popular music, clashing with their father's affinity for the classics, particularly Beethoven. Each daughter, distinct in personality and aspirations, has her own vision of a perfect husband. Emma, pragmatic yet a hopeless romantic, is being pursued by Ernest Talbot, their humble florist neighbor. Thea, with her clever charm, dreams of becoming Mrs. Ben Crowley, an ambitious banker on his way to wealth. Ann, the youngest and the most spirited, claims a lack of interest in matrimony. Their harmonious world is shaken by the entrance of two distinct men. The first is the charismatic Felix Deitz, son of Adam's old friend and a renowned composer-conductor, who effortlessly secures a position at the foundation. His genuine charm, often mistaken for romantic intent, stirs the hearts of many women. The second is Mickey Borden, an acquaintance of Felix with a tragic backstory. Mickey carries a heavy chip on his shoulder and lives a reckless life, using his hardships as excuses for his actions. Hired by Felix to orchestrate his latest composition, Mickey's cynical and slovenly demeanor disrupts the Lemp household's rhythm. Their arrival sets the stage for romantic turmoil and tragic complexities, compelling each daughter to reconsider her life choices, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. As the tempo of their lives accelerates, they may find that their hearts all beat for the same cadence.
