Foreign Land (2016)

In a swift, life-altering revelation, Alejandro Reis - or Alex, as he's known - discovers that the American dream he's living is a lie. Born south of the border, he was brought to America as an infant by his parents. His world capsizes when he's deported to Mexico, a land he barely knows. Meanwhile, Missouri-born Flora Hendricks, a rebellious spirit desperate for freedom, chooses to run away from her mundane existence. Her journey takes a detour when she's arrested for shoplifting and, in a twist of fate, she finds herself on the same deportation bus as Alex. Once in Mexico, Alex and Flora are thrust into the harsh realities of their unfamiliar environment. Tijuana and similar border towns, teeming with violence and dominated by ruthless criminal factions, are a far cry from the worlds they left behind. Together, they must navigate this foreign land, quickly learning that survival is a matter of wits, courage, and unexpected alliances. Amidst the chaos and danger, they discover that they are more out of their depth than they could have ever imagined.
