Plot

Ben Kline, a flourishing television actor, yearns for a meaningful role that could propel him to the fame of a movie star. His search leads him to the poignant story of Miklos Radnoti, a Holocaust victim who left behind a haunting notebook filled with poems from his terrifying ordeal. As Ben dives into the depths of his character, he is compelled to confront the harsh realities of those persecuted by the war. Immersing himself into the life of Radnoti, Ben discovers a voice not of a hero, but of an ordinary Jew, desperate to survive the horrors of the Holocaust. As he navigates the labyrinth of his role, the boundaries between truth and illusion dissolve, causing a profound merge between actor and character. The role forces him to grapple with the understanding that not all could be heroes, and the true homage to the victims is to acknowledge their struggle for survival amidst the inescapable clutches of their fate. Haunted by the echoes of Radnoti's voice from the grave, Ben's biggest challenge becomes how to portray his character: as a hero or victim. He is faced with the dilemma of what legacy he should impart to the future generations who may perceive his portrayal as the ultimate truth about the Holocaust. Ben's journey of self-discovery and understanding is a stirring exploration of the human spirit's resilience and the everlasting impact of historical realities on our collective consciousness.
