In the year 1959, fortified by the support of US troops stationed in Asia and later, the homeland itself, two actresses transform their compassion into action by establishing a charity for mixed-race 'orphans'. These children, cast aside due to their mixed heritage, find a haven in the arms of this new organization, later known as Childhelp. With time, Childhelp expands its reach to the States, running comprehensive centers for the neglected and abused. Among the children sheltered by Childhelp is the brilliant yet tormented Jacob Fletcher, a victim of his lawyer stepfather's terror. Jacob is reclaimed by his stepfather after a brief 10 months in jail, leaving his life in chaos once more. Stories of distress echo from his peers, each carrying their own scars and tales of sorrow. However, within the refuge of the former farm-turned-therapy center, the dedicated and loving staff step up, armed with the healing power of animal therapy and an unwavering devotion. The children, once abandoned and shunned, find themselves enveloped in love and care, carving out a new chapter in their lives, one day at a time.
