For Love or Money (1993)

In the heart of New York's opulence, Doug Ireland's charm and resourcefulness reign supreme as the concierge of a high-end hotel. His days are a whirlwind of fulfilling eccentric requests for the hotel's elite clientele, from procuring dazzling jewelry to securing coveted theatre tickets. Yet, Doug's dreams reach beyond his concierge desk; he aspires to open his own hotel on Roosevelt Island, a vision that's been steadily nurtured through years of diligent saving. However, Doug's dream teeters on the precipice of reality and dissolution. He's managed to secure an option on a timeworn hotel but now faces a ticking clock; he must gather enough funds to refurbish the property within weeks or risk losing it all. His best shot at securing the necessary three million dollars lies with Christian Hanover, a wealthy guest with the potential to be Doug's financial savior. As Doug presents his proposal to Hanover, he finds himself ensnared in a personal quandary. Hanover, although married, is romantically entangled with Andy, a woman who has held Doug's affections but continuously rebuffed his advances out of loyalty to Hanover. Hanover asks Doug to "take care" of Andy, leveraging her as part of the business deal while promising her a future he may not intend to deliver. Despite his skepticism towards Hanover's intentions, Doug consents, prioritizing his hotel dream over his romantic inclinations. Yet, the more time he spends with Andy, the more the lines blur between his pursuit of wealth and the stirrings of his heart. Caught in a complex web of ambition, deceit, and unrequited love, Doug must decide what truly matters to him - is it the glittering promise of financial success or the enduring allure of love?
