Plot

In the year 1400, within the sun-drenched landscapes of Puglia, Southern Italy, a tale of rebellion, love, and defiance unfolds. Noble-born Flavia finds her world shattered when her austere father decapitates her lover and confines her within the austere walls of a coastal convent. The convent, a bastion of devout Catholicism, smothers women under a shroud of submission, a reality that Flavia questions, and resists, with fiery determination. As the convent suffers a shocking invasion by the Tarantula Sect – a cult on their yearly pilgrimage – the sacred halls echo with sacrilege. The sect defiles the holy sanctuary, turning the chapel into a playground of debauchery and violating the consecrated altar. The oppressive masculine leadership within the convent and the religious tyranny become unbearable for Flavia. An opportunity for escape presents itself, and Flavia seizes it, fleeing the convent alongside her Jewish confidant, Abraham. Their bid for freedom, however, is short-lived. Captured by her remorseless father, Flavia is subjected to a brutal whipping, and Abraham is thrown into the dank confines of the dungeon. "Flavia the Heretic" is a vivid depiction of a woman's fight against religious oppression and patriarchal dominance, set against the backdrop of 15th century Italy. It's a tale of courage, defiance, and the indomitable spirit of a woman who refused to be silenced. This film is a potent journey into the heart of rebellion and the price one pays for freedom.
