Amid the verdant expanse of Bolivia's Amazon basin, the relentless march of corporate cattle ranches is gradually devouring the rainforest. Santos, a charismatic union leader of the rubber tappers, unites with the indigenous tribes to challenge the creeping deforestation. This alliance, however, leads to his untimely assassination, a death that resonates across the lush wilderness. In the wake of this turmoil arrives O'Brien, a US photo-journalist hungry for a groundbreaking story. Despite his lack of investigative prowess, he suspects foul play when the local police murder an innocent Indian, framing him for Santos' death. As he plunges deeper into this intricate web of deception and danger, he forms an unlikely alliance with Lysa Rothman, a former associate of Santos and the woman who captures his heart. As O'Brien navigates the hazardous terrain of corruption, he is pulled further into danger, crossing paths with the real assassin and the law, forcing him to rely not only on Lysa but also the chieftain of the Indians. The question remains, how many lives will be sacrificed in the pursuit of O'Brien's story amidst the embers of the Amazon?
