In the enchanting town of Glocca Morra, Ireland, lives dreamer and believer in Irish legends, Finian McLonergan. In a daring move, he uproots his life and that of his daughter, Sharon, to chase a fable in the land of Rainbow Valley, Missitucky, USA. Fueled by the belief that a pot of gold buried in Rainbow Valley will multiply, thanks to its close proximity to Fort Knox and the magical power of rainbows, Finian sets out on his journey with a 'borrowed' crock of gold from the leprechauns of his homeland. Unbeknownst to Finian, his actions have dire consequences. The leprechauns, now bereft of their gold, are slowly losing their magical abilities and turning mortal. Og, a determined leprechaun, embarks on a mission to reclaim the gold, thus saving himself and his kin. Upon their arrival in Rainbow Valley, Finian and Sharon cross paths with the region's prodigal son, Woody Mahoney, who is struggling to save his land from being auctioned off due to unpaid taxes. Woody, a dreamer like Finian, is nurturing an ambitious plan with his friend Howard, a research botanist. They aim to revolutionize the tobacco industry by cultivating the world's first mint-infused tobacco plants, a task proving more daunting than they anticipated. Against her better judgment, Sharon falls for Woody, while Finian helps the Mahoneys keep their land, asking only for a small parcel in return. His intentions, however, are not entirely altruistic; he seeks a suitable place to bury his crock of gold. Their presence in the town and apparent prosperity irk the bigoted Senator Billboard Rawkins, who desires to control as much of Rainbow Valley as possible. As Finian's gold starts influencing the lives of those around him, chaos ensues, especially when the government geologists discover traces of gold on the Mahoney land. As tensions rise, a wish uttered in a fit of indignation triggers a series of events that turn the town upside down, leaving everyone questioning the reality of the crock of gold. In this captivating tale filled with whimsy and folklore, love blooms, dreams are pursued, and the power of a wish is truly tested.
