Final Days of Planet Earth (2006)

In the chilling aftermath of the Paracles Mission, the lunar expedition seeking precious minerals, Commander William Phillips returns to Earth mysteriously infected, confined to the Colonial Hospital. Years later, the bustling city of San Francisco is ensnared in a web of oddities. Lloyd Walker, an archaeologist, witnesses his dig site imploding, taking his assistant Jonathan with it, only to be hastily sealed off by the inscrutable Commissioner Korshaft. Concurrently, Oliver, the steward of a local homeless shelter, notices the unsettling absence of birds in the park, a strange noise resonating from the earth beneath. Elsewhere, Bella, a Bulgarian woman, embarks on a desperate search for her missing husband aided by her brother-in-law, Nick. Marianne, a PHD candidate and part-time exterminator, is beckoned to the City Hall while the salesman Spence struggles with his unemployment benefits. Guided by the Mayor's assistant Liz Quinlan, who's harboring her own secrets, Lloyd Walker finds himself in Room 86, alongside Marianne, Oliver, Spence, Bella, and Nick, all clutching identical recommendation cards. Lloyd and Marianne find their only hope in Phillips, the deranged mission commander held captive in the asylum, his blood holding the key to the aliens' defeat. The duo must race against time to prevent an impending apocalypse, as the horrifying harvest of the alien-insect race threatens to engulf the world. In the face of deception, where trust is a scarce commodity, they must navigate the treacherous terrains of San Francisco's final days.
