FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992)

In the heart of an enchanted forest named FernGully, a community of fairies flourishes under the guardianship of Magi Lune, an elderly fairy with formidable powers. Among them is her vibrant granddaughter, Crysta, known for her insatiable curiosity about the world beyond the forest's emerald veil. The existence of humans, as told in their ancient tales, is nothing more than a myth to them until the arrival of Batty Koda, a neurotic bat with tales of human captivity and experimentation. One fairy, Crysta, becomes engrossed in these stories and sets off to uncover the truth about humans. Her journey leads her to Mount Warning, the eerie lair of the ominous shadow of destruction, Hexxus. Here, she encounters a human named Zak, a logger who is on the brink of being crushed by a felled tree. In a desperate attempt to save him, Crysta shrinks him to fairy-size, unintentionally putting him in the path of "The Leveller," a voracious tree-devouring machine. Crysta and Zak embark on a journey back to Magi Lune, hoping to restore Zak's original size. Along the way, Zak discovers the breathtaking beauty of FernGully, experiencing its vibrant life through the eyes of a fairy. However, calamity strikes FernGully as the humans unintentionally unleash Hexxus, who commandeers "The Leveller" to wreak havoc on FernGully's lush expanse. Upon their return, the fairies are awestruck by Zak's presence, eager to learn about this newfound creature. Amid the excitement, Magi Lune senses the imminent peril. She discovers the approaching destruction of their homeland and the relentless advance of Hexxus. With a heavy heart, she reveals to Crysta the grim fate of the marked trees and the impending doom. As the shadow of Hexxus encroaches closer to FernGully, Magi Lune rallies the fairies, preparing to use the last of her magic in a desperate attempt to shield FernGully from the impending catastrophe.
