Fear and Desire (1953)

In the heart of an undisclosed war, a quartet of soldiers find themselves marooned in a dense woodland, six miles behind enemy lines. The aftermath of a plane crash has left them stranded, with Lieutenant Corby at their helm, and includes Sergeant Mac, the dutiful yet suspicious career soldier, the obedient yet terrified Private Fletcher, and Private Sidney, a man besieged by the traumas of war. Their survival hinges on a desperate plan. Corby, a leader known for his caution, concocts a daring scheme to reach a nearby river, construct a raft, and then, under the comforting cloak of night, navigate their way back to the sanctuary of friendly territory. However, the unity of the group is strained by diverging personalities and the pressure of their predicament. Trust wavers as Mac's inherent soldierly instinct pushes him to seize opportunities beyond mere survival. Fletcher's quiet obedience is tinged with a palpable dread, while Sidney's sanity teeters on the edge, his mind shattered by the horrors of battle.
