Plot

In the heart of France's illustrious cinematic heritage, Agnès Varda, a venerated director of the French New Wave, embarks on an inspiring artistic expedition with a curious accomplice, J.R., a cryptic street photographer, muralist, and installation artist. Their journey, a whimsical exploration across the rustic French countryside, is both a road trip and a voyage of discovery. Travelling in a unique box truck which doubles as a portable photo booth and mobile printing facility, the pair navigate their way through isolated villages and expansive farms, their thirst for new encounters unquenchable. They meet people from all walks of life, each with their own intriguing narratives, which they weave into an ever-evolving tapestry of memory and art through colossal black-and-white murals plastered on walls. Their project is a celebration of the everyday, a tribute to the people and places they encounter. They honor the individuals, communities, and stories they meet along the way, their creations a testament to these encounters. The result is a surprising and delightful blend of artistry and humanity, a tribute to the heart of France and its people. Throughout their journey, the seasoned filmmaker and the young, imaginative artist form an unlikely friendship, their conversations ranging from the profound to the utterly mundane, their perspectives on the world as unique as the art they create. "Faces Places" is an exploration of art, friendship, and the beauty of ordinary life, demonstrating that sometimes, the most unexpected collaborations can result in the most extraordinary art.
