In the sun-kissed city of Santa Monica, California, Karen McCann, a museum curator, and Mack McCann, a construction company owner, live a seemingly idyllic life with their two daughters, Megan and Julie. Tragedy shatters their tranquil existence when Julie, Karen's daughter from a previous marriage but loved no less by Mack, is brutally raped and murdered during a phone call with Karen. The raw horror of the crime is intensified by the culprit's identity - Robert Doob, a supermarket deliveryman with a lengthy criminal past. Placed under the investigative eye of Detective Sergeant Joe Denillo, Doob, a human embodiment of malevolence, is caught but released due to a legal technicality. The court's failure to deliver justice ignites a fire of fury within Karen. When Doob begins shadowing Megan, Karen's maternal instincts awaken a dark resolve to protect her family at all costs.
