Plot

In the heart of World War II, amid the neutrality of Sweden, we find young Bo, a sailor and the son of a railway stationmaster, returning from the Navy. His mind is flooded with memories of a haunting childhood incident where he and a blind 10-year-old girl commandeered a steam locomotive, resulting in a tragic derailment and the young girl's death. As Bo becomes entwined in a blossoming romance with Eva, a captivating local woman, the ghost of his past guilt still lingers, casting a shadow over their courtship. The haunting memories take a sinister turn in Stockholm, where Bo is tormented by dreams of a murderous plot against his roommate Göran, aided by Göran's alluring yet flirtatious girlfriend, Susanne. In the final act, we find Bo and Eva united in marriage, living a secluded life on a distant island off Stockholm. As Eva's time of delivery approaches, Bo must brave the tempestuous seas, a task that reawakens his dormant fears of triggering another death. This tale of love, guilt and redemption unfolds under the backdrop of war, ensnaring the audience in a gripping narrative of a man battling his past while striving for a peaceful future.
