Escape from Zahrain (1962)

Caught in the tumultuous throes of the 1960s, an imaginary Arab nation finds itself embroiled in political discord. Sharif, a fervent revolutionary nationalist leader, is seized and destined for execution. His looming fate triggers a daring rescue mission led by Ahmed, the spirited spearhead of a student insurrection. The audacious attack on the police van frees Sharif and three additional prisoners, including Huston, an American implicated in thievery from the Zahrain Oil Company. In their desperate bid for freedom, the escapees commandeer an ambulance and its attending nurse, Laila. They embark on a gritty getaway, fleeing the city's chaos for the uncertain safety of the border. Their journey across the unyielding desert sands is fraught with deadly encounters, including a police ambush that claims the life of Hassan, one of the convicts. As danger and desperation intertwine, an unexpected love story blossoms amidst the turmoil. Ahmed, the fiery student leader, and Laila, the captured nurse, find solace in each other. Tragically, their bond is short-lived as Ahmed falls victim to a ruthless government fighter plane. The group's numbers dwindle further when Tahar, another convict, meets a similar fate. Left standing are the unlikely trio of Laila, Sharif, and Huston. Their survival hangs in the balance, teetering on the edge of hope and despair.
