Enduring Love (2004)

On a flawless day, under an unblemished sky, young lovers Joe and Claire reunite for a picturesque picnic in the heart of the verdant English countryside. Their peaceful idyll, however, is abruptly shattered when a rogue hot air balloon, carrying a terrified boy and a trapped pilot, intrudes upon their sanctuary. Rushing to aid in the impending disaster, Joe, along with three other bystanders, attempts to anchor the rogue balloon. A sudden gust of wind, however, turns the would-be rescuers into unintended passengers, sending them soaring into the sky. While most manage to descend, one man's fate is tragically sealed as he plummets to his death. Later, while recounting the harrowing event to his friends Robin and Rachel, Joe unveils the startling toll the incident has taken on his psyche. Yet, as fate would have it, the balloon lands safely with the boy unharmed. The tranquility of the day, however, remains forever tarnished. In an unfortunate twist, Joe's decision to retrieve the fallen man's body alongside fellow rescuer Jed Parry proves disastrous. Jed, overwhelmed by their shared trauma, develops an intense connection to Joe. As the days stretch into weeks, this connection transforms into an obsession, casting an ominous shadow over Joe's life, hinting at darker trials awaiting him in the future.
