Plot

In the heart of contemporary India, within the imposing walls of a majestic fort, the echo of a royal dynasty that no longer reigns resounds. Amidst this silent grandeur, Eklavya (Amitabh Bachchan), the royal guard, stands as a timeless sentinel. His life is dedicated to the preservation of an ancient citadel in Rajasthan, Devigarh, a responsibility inherited through nine generations. Eklavya, a man whose unerring marksmanship is the subject of awe-inspiring legends, and whose unyielding loyalty fuels the fires of passionate ballads, now grapples with the twilight of his life and encroaching blindness. The heir to the throne, Prince Harshwardhan (Saif Ali Khan), having escaped the stifling customs of his homeland, lives in self-exile in London. However, the unexpected demise of Queen Suhasinidevi (Sharmila Tagore) compels him to return to the kingdom he had forsaken. His homecoming breathes life into the stagnant fort, much to the delight of his mentally challenged twin sister, Princess Nandini (Raima Sen), and his childhood love, Rajjo (Vidya Balan). Yet, the joy of reunion is fleeting. The kingdom is on the brink of chaos as farmers are stripped of their lands, and the king, Rana Jaywardhan (Boman Irani), swayed by his power-hungry brother, Rana Jyotiwardhan (Jackie Shroff), turns a blind eye to the atrocities. When a death threat shatters the king's complacency, the irreverent police officer, Pannalal Chohar (Sanjay Dutt), is drawn into the turmoil. As bullets fly and the fort's long-guarded secrets unravel, a thrilling saga of duty, loyalty, and familial ties ensues. Eklavya's devotion to his duty, reflected in the ancient tale of his namesake who sacrificed his thumb for his teacher, is tested when he discovers that the threat to the king's life originates from a shocking source close to his heart. As Eklavya grapples with his dark family secret and the ultimate choice between his duty and love for his son, what will prevail forms the crux of this gripping narrative. Featuring a star-studded ensemble cast and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra after a seven-year hiatus, "Eklavya: The Royal Guard" unfolds as a dramatic, edge-of-the-seat action thriller, bringing to life a tale of enduring loyalty, heartbreaking choices, and the relentless march of time.
