Plot

In an ironic twist of fate, bank teller and widower Henry Dimsdale (Bob Hope), a father to seven lively kids, stumbles upon a windfall of $10,000 in a nondescript parking lot. As a man burdened by financial strain, he's torn between the moral quandary of turning in the found money or using it to provide for his sprawling brood. However, fortune quickly turns fickle when his bank uncovers a substantial monetary discrepancy in their records, casting suspicious eyes towards unsuspecting Henry. With the threat of arrest looming like a dark cloud, Henry, guided by his survival instinct, decides to take his large family on the run. In this high-stake game of hide and seek, their audacious baby-sitter, Golda (Phyllis Diller), emerges as their unlikely guardian angel. Golda, a flamboyant character with a heart of gold, effortlessly deflects the attention of her new, albeit dim-witted, cop boyfriend, Det. Jasper Lynch (Jonathan Winters), keeping the family safe in their covert escapade. As Henry and his family navigate this unexpected adventure, they're joined by a couple of eccentric characters, a schoolteacher and a gold-digger, portrayed by past and future "Bond Girls" Shirley Eaton ("Goldfinger") and Jill St. John ("Diamonds Are Forever"). Simultaneously, Det. Lynch, in a hilarious twist, doubles up to play his own mother, adding a layer of comic relief to this high-tension chase. With every passing moment, the manhunt for Henry intensifies, but hope isn't lost. He clings firmly to the belief that truth will prevail, and his name will be cleared, leading him out of this labyrinth of chaos and suspicion. "Eight on the Lam" is a riveting tale of an ordinary man plunged into extraordinary circumstances, punctuated with moments of humor, suspense, and the enduring power of familial love.
