Duel in the Sun (1946)

In the tempestuous aftermath of a fatal love triangle, Scott Chavez is sentenced to hang for the murder of his wife and her lover. Amidst the turmoil, he bequeaths his half-breed daughter, the fiery Pearl Chavez, to the care of his distant cousin, Laura Belle, and her family, the McCanles, in Texas. Upon her arrival at the sprawling Spanish Bit ranch, Pearl is greeted with a maelstrom of emotions. She is welcomed warmly by Jesse McCanles, Laura Belle's principled lawyer son, but met with frosty disdain by the patriarch of the family, the wheelchair-bound Senator Jackson McCanles, who views her exotic heritage with contempt.
