Plot

In the quaint, close-knit town of Verplanck, New York, an unexpected tragedy eclipses the everyday humdrum. Mona Dearly, a notoriously belligerent and universally detested woman, meets her demise under suspicious circumstances. Her ill-fated Yugo, borrowed from her long-suffering and intellectually challenged son, Jeff, mysteriously plummets off a cliff and into the tranquil river below, resulting in her untimely drowning. The town's astute Police Chief, Wyatt Rash, is drawn into a twisted game of whodunit as he uncovers that the car's brake lines were deliberately severed. The pool of suspects is disturbingly vast, beginning with the marginalized Jeff, whom Mona incessantly belittled. Then there's Phil, Mona's put-upon husband, whose clandestine affair with the enigmatic waitress, Rona Mace, paints a guilty picture. Adding to the convoluted mystery is Bobby Calzone, Jeff's landscaping partner and soon-to-be son-in-law of Chief Rash. Bobby, burdened by Jeff's lethargic work ethic and desperate to unshackle himself from the partnership, had a motive strong enough to wish Mona's demise. As Chief Rash meticulously pieces together the puzzle, he must navigate the town's murky secrets, protect his daughter's betrothed, and unmask a killer lurking amidst the seemingly peaceful town. Drowning Mona is a captivating tale of murder, infidelity, and the dramatic unravelling of a small town's darkest secrets.
