Plot

In the rustic county of Somerset, 1958, we find Eva, an endearing young woman stepping foot into the whirlwind of adulthood. She whimsically navigates her new responsibilities, maintaining the homestead for her scatterbrained father, and ushering her innocent sister Janie into the mysteries of maturity. Amidst the humdrum of her job at a furniture factory, Eva finds solace in her dreams of Joseph Lees, her distant cousin. A geologist by profession, Joseph voyages through Africa and Italy, his journey marred by a tragic accident costing him a leg. While Joseph resides in her dreams, the reality of Eva's life is colored by the persistent affections of the local farmer, Harry Flite. Harry, brimming with enthusiasm, is hopelessly smitten with Eva. Torn between the realm of dreams and reality, Eva concedes to Harry's advances and moves in with him, seemingly content. However, the calm of her life is disrupted when Joseph makes an unexpected appearance at a family wedding. A single dance with Joseph sends waves through Eva's life, her fantasy of Joseph clashing head-on with Harry's unwavering infatuation. As dreams and reality intertwine, Eva is left grappling with the collision of her fantasies and the persisting obsessions of Harry.
