Plot

In the quaint town of Big Bend, the scholarly Dr. Cardwell struggles to find favor among the locals, who are enamored by the more charismatic Dr. Ginder. Cardwell's financial hardships are evident as he struggles to even pave way for his food bills. However, his mundane life takes a turn when the formidable outlaw, Red Bastian, seeks his medical expertise. The outlaw's generosity renders Cardwell solvent, allowing him to settle his dues with the grocer. Before their next daring heist, Bastian's gang cross paths with an enigmatic hitchhiker, Jo. Caught in the crossfire and wounded, Jo finds herself under the care of Dr. Cardwell at his humble abode, where an unlikely bond blossoms. The town echoes with rumors, painting Jo as Bastian's lady love, intensifying the drama. Meanwhile, Cardwell's unsuspecting visit to Bastian's secret hideout, albeit blindfolded, gives him clues about its location. On another front, the wily G-men hot on Bastian's trail, trace the doctor through the hundred-dollar bill Bastian paid him, turning the heat onto Cardwell. When Bastian kidnaps Jo, Cardwell musters courage, agreeing to rendezvous with the law enforcement. Devising a cunning plan, Cardwell persuades the gang to receive vaccinations against a supposedly contaminated water source, secretly injecting them with a sedative. As the feds swoop in to round up the unconscious gang, Cardwell and Jo seize the opportunity to escape, leaving behind a tale of intrigue, courage, and unexpected alliances in their wake.
