Set in the heart of France during the vivacious Yé-Yé era of 1970, the life of the elite Baron Claude Tranchant and his wife, Baroness Élaine Tranchant, is thrown into turmoil. Their world vibrates with shockwaves when a close friend meets with a harrowing accident while driving the Baroness's car - a car with mysteriously cut brakes. Convinced that someone plots to assassinate Éliane, the Baron turns to his politically influential friend Jacques Chirac, who summons the aid of the indomitable Commissar Maurice Lefranc. Lefranc, tasked with sending his best, finds his squad of detectives depleted, leaving him with only one option - the bumbling, absent-minded, and categorically disastrous Jean Boullin. Despite his reservations, Lefranc dispatches Boullin to the sun-drenched summer house of the Baron in the glistening French Riviera, where the Tranchants are hosting their annual star-studded party. Thrust into a world where glamour meets danger, Boullin must navigate the glitzy labyrinth of high society. Armed with knowledge about death threats against the Baroness, he decides to operate incognito, working undercover as a waiter. His mission: to eavesdrop on the guests' conversations, hoping to unmask the potential killer lurking amidst the glitterati. However, Boullin's every attempt to unravel the mystery ends in calamity, inciting not just the ire of the Tranchants and their elite coterie, but also the exasperated Lefranc.
