Digging for Fire (2015)

Lee and Tim, a married duo balancing yoga instruction and public school PE teaching, seize a golden opportunity to escape their routine. They agree to house-sit a secluded Los Angeles Hills mansion, owned by a distant actress friend, for a two-week breather with their toddler son, Jude. Their mini-vacation takes a peculiar turn when Tim unearths a gun and a bone on the property, tucked away beyond the pool in the wooded hills. He is convinced he has stumbled upon a potential murder mystery, despite the police refusing to intervene without a physical body. Despite the bone-chilling discovery, Lee persuades Tim to shelve his theories. During their inaugural weekend, she leaves Tim to tackle their long-overdue tax returns while she and Jude visit her infrequently seen mother, stepfather, sister Squiggy, and her family. But instead of crunching numbers, Tim invites his buddies for a weekend escapade, his find in the woods becoming the central theme of their gathering. Max, one of the friends, displays a keen interest in Tim's speculation, though his reasons for digging might extend beyond mere curiosity. Simultaneously, Lee uses her weekend away to recharge and examine her life, which she feels has strayed from her control. With Jude under the supervision of Grandma and Pop Pop, she has the space to breathe and reflect. As the weekend draws to a close, and Lee and Tim reconvene, their understanding of their relationship and shared life with Jude might be forever altered, shaped by their separate experiences during this unexpected weekend.
