In the heart of England's remote countryside, an American named Stephen Reinhart disembarks from a train in the eerily quiet town of Arkham. His destination: the enigmatic Witley estate, home to his fiancée, Susan Witley. Despite the ominous whispers of the locals, who recoil at the mere mention of the Witley name, Stephen embarks on a solitary journey to the estate. A frosty reception awaits him, with the wheelchair-bound patriarch Nahum Witley making it abundantly clear that his visit is anything but welcome.
