Plot

Bathing in the glow of present-day notoriety, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, the Washington Post reporters who cracked open the Watergate scandal, still protect the identity of their informant, Deep Throat. This tale, however, rewinds the clock to the hot and restless summer of 1972, where the real story unfolds, and it's not what you'd expect. Meet Betsy Jobs and Arlene Lorenzo, two ordinary fifteen-year-olds, their heads filled with dreams of teen heartthrobs and their hearts brimming with adolescent exuberance. Arlene, a resident of the infamous Watergate complex, hosts Betsy for a girlish evening of conjuring the perfect entry for the "Win a Date with Bobby Sherman" contest. But their innocent meandering around the complex leads them to a chilling encounter with a mysterious man, G. Gordon Liddy, who later crosses their path within the hallowed halls of the White House during a class field trip. Riddled with paranoia, Liddy fears the girls can link him to the Watergate break-in, and in turn, the girls find themselves entering the twisted labyrinth of political machinations. In a whirlwind of events, they meet none other than President Richard Nixon, or 'Dick' as they come to call him. To keep them under his watchful eye, Dick employs them, first as dog walkers for his canine companion Checkers, and later as unofficial youth policy advisors. Though these roles are mostly titular, they unexpectedly provide the girls with a front-row seat to the administration's illicit activities. As the girls navigate the intricate maze of their new-found roles, they grapple with the realization of what they're witnessing. Can these two teen dreamers, more accustomed to swooning over heartthrobs, grasp the gravity of their situation? And if they do, what will they do with this explosive information? This comedy delves into an audacious reinterpretation of the Watergate scandal, seen through the wide-eyed innocence of two high school girls.
