Deserted (2016)

Emerging from the confines of prison at the age of twenty-four, haunted by the matricide that put her there, Jae finds herself reluctantly returning to the all too familiar homestead of her troubled childhood in Ridgecrest, a small town that holds nothing but bitter memories. Seeking an escape from the past that seems to cling to every corner of her hometown, she accepts her brother's unexpected invitation to embark on a road trip to the desolate expanses of Death Valley. Their hopeful journey, however, soon takes a disastrous turn as they find themselves hopelessly lost in the breathtaking yet pitiless wilderness of the planet's most unforgiving topographical masterpiece. With no roadmap to guide them and the merciless desert as their only companion, Jae and her brother must navigate their way through this scenic but brutal terrain, fighting not only for survival but also grappling with their own personal demons. Their enthralling odyssey through Death Valley becomes a journey into their own souls, where they face the stark realities of their past, present, and uncertain future.
