Plot

Nestled amidst the pastoral landscapes of Maharashtra, the tranquil village of Mangrul becomes the epicenter of a divine revelation. One languid afternoon, Keshav (Girish Kulkarni), an unsuspecting village youth, dreams of the deity Dattatrey while resting beneath a tree. Unable to contain his excitement, he trumpets his divine encounter to the village, inadvertently causing a stir. Anna (Dilip Prabhavalkar), the village's revered elder, counsels restraint, cautioning that faith is a personal matter. His words fall on deaf ears as a journalist (Kishor Kadam) sensationalizes the celestial visitation, sparking a fervor for a Dattatrey temple. Bhau (Nana Patekar), a political activist, opposes the temple, advocating that the village funds be used for better purposes like constructing a hospital. However, the tide of public sentiment is too strong, and he watches helplessly as the temple is erected. Mangrul, once a humble village, transforms into a holy destination, its commercial boom a stark contrast to its former simplicity. Anna, disillusioned by the village's metamorphosis, relocates to Bangalore, leaving his home village in the throes of blind commercial progression. As the villagers profit from the burgeoning religious tourism, the essence of worship is forsaken. This disheartens Keshav, the initial herald of the divine vision, and he absconds with the deity's statue in the veil of night. The village descends into chaos, and a manhunt ensues for the missing Keshav. The narrative reaches a crescendo with the villagers establishing a new idol in the temple, but their mercenary practices persist. 'Deool,' a cinematic gem from Writer Girish Kulkarni and Director Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni, questions the ethical implications of exploiting religious faith for commercial gain. As the tale unfolds, it subtly nudges the audience to ponder whether progress should come at the cost of losing the essence of spiritual reverence, all while providing an engaging and enlightening viewing experience.
