Plot

In the tumultuous era of Prohibition, the shadowy underbelly of 1930's Chicago is rife with treachery. Mick Nich, a notorious gangster, double-crosses his own bootlegging crew, leaving them in the unforgiving hands of the law. The betrayed mob, thirsty for revenge, employs Johnny Pollack - the most ruthless hitman in the windy city - to hunt down the traitor who has fled to the unfamiliar territories of Odessa, USSR. Upon his arrival in Odessa, Pollack is no longer the predator but the prey, losing his memory in a city that plays by its own rules. The hitman, once feared, is now perceived as a quaint butterfly collector by the unsuspecting Odessa locals. As he battles his wavering memory, he gets embroiled in a series of farcical misadventures with these eccentric characters. Meanwhile, the elusive Mick Nich has found a new empire in this foreign land, building an alcohol smuggling syndicate teeming with bumbling thugs. The chase to track down Nich becomes a twisted game of cat and mouse, as Pollack regains and loses his memory multiple times, adding layers of complexity to his mission. In this darkly comedic tale, 'Déjà vu' takes you through a labyrinth of memories and misadventures, where a hitman's journey to execute his assignment becomes an exploration of identity and purpose. The hard-hitting reality of the mob world collides with the absurdity of Odessa, creating a riveting narrative that leaves you questioning - is it easier to make a hit in a civilized country or in a land where chaos reigns?
